Violence Erupts on UB Camppus over Start of Examination.

At least a University of Buea student has been wounded following violence wchich erupted on the Molyko Campus Monday.The violence broke out at the Class room block(one of the lecture halls) where security gurads clahsed with members of the University of Buea Students Union.

The security guards made a failed attempt at preventing the irate students form halting the examinatioons which the Vice Chancellor Prof Vincent Titanji had anounced would start Monday morning, amid tension between the UB administration and the Buea Chapter of the lecturers trade Union, SYNES.
The students according to concordent reports want the government to address the problems raised by their lecturers. Cameroon postline learnt from relaible soucres that after the crisis meeting between the Universtity Committee of Deans and directors which ended in a deadluck, SYnes members on Friday held an emergency extraordinary meeting and resolved that they would call off their strike action on Monday, while examinations for the First semester were to begin Tuesday.

The decision to suspend the strike action follows plans by the Minister of Hiher Education to grant audience to the UB lecturers Tuesday , Cameroon postline was told by a source from the Central Administration.
In the wake of waiting to be granted audience , the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea reportedly insisted that Examination begin Monday.

And so when some student began writing the examinations under the supervision of some lecturers other students said it was some sort of betrayal and decided that the examinations be brought to a halt.
In the standoff, one student was reportly wounded while others sustained bruises in the stampede that ensured.
The Ub students then convereged on the open amphitheatre, demanding that the adminsitration and Synes officials addresses them.

They later moved to the Central administration where the used stoned to destroy some windows.
At the time of filing in this post, the UB administrators and other staff were hostage at the Central administration.
